The United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) is the FIE, AAI and NCAA officially recognized Governing Body for professional Fencing Instructors, and will be holding a coaches clinic August 16, 17, 18, and 19, 2007 The location will be UC 107 (the University Center) at Drew University, Madison, NJ and sessions will be conducted from 9 AM to 5 PM (with lunch break) each day.
Though the theme is scholastic coaching, all coaches are invited to attend. The presentations and testing will be applicable to all fencing coaching situations.
USFCA Continuing Education Certificates (now the official coaches' body for the NCAA) will be given to attendees upon completion.
Testing for Moniteur (International Academy of Arms "Instructor") Certification, in each weapon, can be made available at the end of or after each day's session, given advance notice - meaning before the beginning of the collective 4 days' sessions. The protocol for the test, along with recommended reading and the written exam (it may be taken on-line), can be found on the USFCA web-site:
Though it isn't required, it is recommended that candidates bring their own students to demonstrate for testing; all candidates for testing must be properly equipped in full, professional coaching equipment. Electric equipment is not necessary for testing-
The Clinics will not be a curriculum specifically for testing; The USFCA tests are created with flexibility towards differing methods in mind. The Clinics will be adjusted to address responses from the questionnaire sent along with this e-mail. We want to address exactly what coaches feel THEY need for their coaching.
